There are many urgent difficulties facing those experiencing poverty and homelessness, including where to consistently find a hot meal, where to sleep each night, how to reliably find clean clothes, and where to take a shower and use the toilet. One issue that many people might not consider is: how to menstruate safely and with dignity.
Menstrual products, such as tampons and pads, are comparatively expensive. Reusable options such as menstrual cups require a person to have regular access to a safe place to clean their cup. Using rags or other cloth necessitates having a place to wash them nearby. If a person doesn’t have enough money for food, they often do not have the resources to use any of these options most of the time.
This is why St. Anthony’s Young Professionals Council has partnered with the Free Clothing Program and Simply the Basics during Women’s History Month to host a virtual curbside. We invite you to join us and help St. Anthony’s provide necessary hygiene supplies all year round to those who menstruate. Plus, Simply the Basics will match each donation (up to 2400 feminine products) so that we can do even more good together for our community!
