How Hygiene Banks Get Their Hygiene Supplies

Simply the Basics and hygiene banks distribute millions of hygiene supplies! Last year alone, Simply the Basics distributed nearly 270 thousand essential hygiene products to people and families in need. While costs and demand are rising, we will continue to fight against hygiene insecurity to meet the increased need and improve public health.

But where do hygiene banks even get all this hygiene - and in what ways can you help?

1. Hygiene is donated to hygiene banks

Much of the hygiene that is distributed to individuals and families with limited-income is donated to Simply the Basics and hygiene banks by people, just like you! Hygiene supplies can come from:

  • Hygiene drives. Hygiene Drives allow people to source a variety of quality supplies that are most needed and can start with an individual, families, at school, the office, or other community location. Hygiene received can be distributed right away or may be stored for when needed.

  • Individual drop offs. Helping to mitigate waste, you may already have some excess supplies at home! Individuals can drop off supplies that are unused and unexpired, allowing those supplies to go to people in need right away.

2. Hygiene banks purchase supplies

Often, Simply the Basics and hygiene banks purchase the items their Recipient’s need for health but aren’t regular donated, such as shampoo for textured hair, dental care for sensitive teeth or dentures, or a specific skin ointment. Hygiene banks often buy these supplies In bulk and at a much lower value than what we may spend at a convenience or grocery store, which allows your donated dollars to turn into more hygiene distributions. By purchasing supplies, this also allows Simply the Basics the flexibility to meet needs specific to each receiving site and community, like culturally or medically unique health needs.

Make a monetary donation now.

3. Corporate Partnerships

Businesses and companies, both small and large, can donate hygiene supplies or sponsorships to hygiene banks. We receive all types of support from boxes of deodorant and soap to pallets of shampoo - each item making a huge difference!
