Simply the Basics visits Children's Day School

"Last week, our Middle School Student Leadership Team welcomed Phylicia Hisel from Simply the Basics to our campus. Simply the Basics is a local organization that aims to combat homelessness in San Francisco by facilitating the donation of basic items such as hygiene products, working with shelters to distribute the items they most urgently need, and offering courses designed to help people experiencing homelessness acquire life skills that can help them get back on their feet.

One of our most important goals is to develop a community of passionate citizens, and our middle school students were eager to learn more about how Simply the Basics is working to end economic disparity, one of San Francisco’s most significant social problems. Hisel talked with the students about the underlying factors behind homelessness, what steps are being taken to address them, and what people can do to help. She encouraged them to seek out volunteer opportunities, as well as to spread awareness about the problem and correct the prejudices of others.

Our students are deeply committed to social justice work, and we look forward to updating you as they try to help out in the fight against homelessness. We would like to thank Hisel and Simply the Basics for taking the time to visit CDS, and also Director of Inclusion Anthony Witte for helping set up the meeting."
